to Zelicaon Papillons.
After thirty-three years of breeding and exhibiting Dalmatians we decided
that we needed a smaller breed. We had tried to acquire a couple of nice
bitches in the early 70's but found it was difficult to get a good start so
we gave up on it. Then in 1979 a new spark of interest surfaced and we
started looking all over again. One would think that after having a
number of homebred Dalmatians it would be relatively easy to get a good
start in any breed we chose. NOT SO!
When a long time friend found out about our new venture she offered a
Champion male to us that she had more or less inherited. The dog was Ch.
Landmark Monarch Fly-N-Solo or Lindy to his many friends. Lindy's first owner
came down with a terminal illness so she gave her Schipperkes and Papillons
away before she died. Our friend had no intentions of breeding or showing
Papillons and that is how Lindy happened to come to Zelicaon. Not long after
Lindy came to live here, he became a "Sire of Merit" having sired five
Champion offspring.
A lot of study has gone into our acquisition of more Papillons. We
learned early the importance of CERF eye checks,
Patella checks, and heart checks as these three ailments seem to be the
prominent problems in the breed.
Forrest has been an AKC approved judge of Dalmatians, all Poodles and Junior
Showmanship (now Emeritus) since 1974 as well as breeding national winning
Dalmatians. Forrest has judged the National Dalmatian Specialty three times,
Regional Specialties in many states. He judged The National Specialties in
Brazil, Australia, and the Canadian as well as the Leeds England Dalmatian
Classes.
Forrest has also studied the Breed Standard and attended multiple Breed and
Judges study groups to learn proper type and all the fine points for
producing high quality animals. Our aim is to breed healthy,
sound-moving Papillons that have really good temperaments.
All pet quality puppies are sold on spay/neuter contracts to ensure that any
non-show quality animals from this kennel will not be used to propagate more
Papillons that deviate from correct breed type. A breeder can expect only a few puppies that will be
competitive in the show ring, For that reason, among many others, all
breeding stock must be strong and healthy. Most puppies will end up in a
loving (non-show) home and their owners deserve a nice quality pet.
We will occasionally sell a show potential puppy to a qualified buyer. Any
person inquiring about a pet or a show puppy can expect to be
questioned about the puppy's potential new home and family. It is very important to us that our charges be placed in a
lifetime situations. Any dog that leaves here can be returned in cases where
the owner cannot keep the dog.
